NEW DELHI: Ritu Rani and Rani Devi scored three goals each as SGNP Girls' School, Shahabad, defeated Blooming Dales School, Hissar, 7-1 to win the 13th Nehru girls' hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Wednesday. Rajni opened the scoring for the winning team that led 3-0 at the breather. For the Hissar girls, Ruchika scored. For the third place, Mizoram's Thenzawl School beat Jharkhand's Govt. Girls School 5-3 via tiebreaker. After regulation time, the teams were locked 1-1. Lalremruati scored for Thenzawl in the first half and Emrencia Soy Murum equalised for the Jharkhand girls. In the tiebreaker, R. Laldinpari, H. Lalhlipuii, Lalruatfeli and Lalremruati scored while Lalminghlui missed for the winner. For the Ranchi girls, Bilasi Tiru, Shilwanti Minjur amd Shabnam Lakra were successful before Divya Tirkey and Anita Tiru failed to convert. In the sub-junior boys' section, Kohima's Loyala School rallied to beat Chamoli's Govt. inter college 2-1 in the inaugural match. V. Khieya and Jonpong Mar scored for Loyala after Chamoli's Bhagwani Singh Rawat found the target.
Talukdar hailed
Archery Association of India President Vijay Kumar Malhotra congratulated Jayanta Talukdar for making it to the grand final of the World Cup championship. Talukdar advanced after qualifying from three World Cup competitions held in Croatia, Turkey and China. The final will be held in Mexico from Oct. 21 to 23.
Modern, DPS in final
Modern School, Barakhamba Road, will meet Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, in the boys final of the Royal basketball tournament. Modern beat Oxford School 43-20 on Tuesday. DPS had qualified earlier. The results (all semifinals): Boys: Modern School 43 (Aditya 9) bt Oxford School 20 (Tej Singh 9). Colleges (men): Hansraj College 82 (Lakshya 22, Ritesh 16, Vikram 13, Nitin 11) bt Jamia College 54 (Akmal 19, Amit 10, Ajay Nehra 10); KM College 68 (Neeraj 23, Harish 15, Anshul 11) bt Indira Gandhi Institute of PESS 55 (Amit Singh 26, Akash Tyagi 16). Men: AHQ Signals 71 (Dilip 17, Satish Kumar 16, Dharmender 12) bt CRPF 52 (Sanjay Singh 14); Indian Navy 103 (Mashi 18, Vipin 17, Pandey 13) bt Butlerian Club 38 (Ritesh 9).
