Chemancheri panchayat embarks on clean-up drive

KOZHIKODE: The Chemancheri grama panchayat has launched a sanitation project, `Azhukkilla Chemancheri, Azhakulla Chemancheri' (Clean Chemancheri, Beautiful Chemancheri), that envisages awareness of hygiene and plastic-free premises among all sections of the community.

A steering committee and ward-level committees have been formed for overseeing the project implementation. Side by side monitoring committees are evaluating the progress.

The plastic-free campaign is being carried out in a phased manner, with a deadline set for November, and alternative arrangements to replace plastic with eco-friendly materials. A plastic collection centre is planned at the panchayat office. A self-imposed ban was clamped on substances such as `pan masala,' organisers said.
