Purushothaman wins

HYDERABAD: T. Purushothaman of Guntur won the CPAI State open rapid chess championship with six points from as many rounds at the Ameerpet Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday.

P.V.V. Seshu with five points was second while M.Y. Raju, also with five points, was third on progressive score.

However, all the top three players here qualified for the all-India knockout rapid meet to be held in Pune from Oct. 30.

10K run

The Hyderabad 10K run and the half-marathon will be organised by Hyderabad 10K Foundation in the City on November 26.

The registrations for participation will begin on October 20 and end on November 10. The half-marathon will be for general category including women and juniors while the 10K run will be for teams, the differently-abled, colleges, apartments, clubs, corporates and trade unions.

Participants can register at any of the post offices and "Subway" outlets in the twin cities. The 10K Foundation will also organise two quiz competitions — Harsha's Kaikoo — on October 26 and November 9 as a run up to the big event.

Arjuna awardee P.V. Ramana and GM Abhijit Kunte gave away the prizes.

Sai Chand shines

A century by Sai Chand (161 not out, 18x4) helped Little Flower Junior College `B' to record a 358-run win over Gowtham Junior College in the Parle Cup U-17 cricket tournament here.

The scores: Little Flower Jr. College `B' 426 for two (Sai Chand 161 not out, Nikhilesh Thunga 63, Md. Ameenuddin 70, Anirudh Vanka 31 not out) bt Gowtham Jr. College 68 (Dhruv Parikh four for 28, T.M. Rohit five for 26); Little Flower Jr. College `A' 285 (Vivek 82, Kunal 41, Rajiv 30, P. Shravan Yadav 30, Millan six for 48) bt Chirec Public School 91 (Srikar 31, Rahul three for 29); St. Mary's Jr. College, Yousufguda, 63 (Albert five for 15, Rajesh three for 15) lost to Loyola Academy 65 for one (A. Vijay 35).

Sumeeth to lead

B. Sumeeth will lead Osmania University in the all-India inter-university powerlifting championship to be held in Gwalior from Oct. 23 to 25.
