TDP, Congress served show-cause notices

  • Parties found subjecting animals to cruelty
  • Guntur-based Aasara files petition

    GUNTUR: District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of District Legal Services Authority Aditya Pratap Bhanj Deo on Wednesday took strong exception to the cruelty shown towards animals by Telugu Desam Party and Congress and served them show-cause notices.

    Guntur-based socio-legal organisation Aasara filed a public interest litigation in the Guntur District Legal Services Authority on Wednesday seeking justice to animals that were subjected to cruelty by TDP and Congress on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

    The DSLA Chairman served show-cause notices to Guntur district unit presidents of TDP and Congress, District Collector, Superintendent of Police, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Secretary of Animal Welfare Board, Chennai, calling for explanation before October 31 on why they either resorted to such cruelty or did not act on their mandate to stop such acts.

    The petition was filed by A. Sanjeeva Reddy on behalf of Aasara and argued by several prominent lawyers for more than an hour on Wednesday.

    Elephant rally

    While all this was happening in the court, Congress party leaders, including several MLAs from Guntur district, chose to participate in a rally of an elephant surrounded by donkeys was taken out from Congress office.
