PATHANAMTHITTA: The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) will launch the work of the permanent cardiology centres at Appachimedu and Neelimala before the beginning of the coming pilgrim season. Addressing a press conference at the Devaswom Guest House in the Sannidhanam on Wednesday, TDB president G. Raman Nair and members Punalur Madhu and M.B. Sreekumar said the cardiology centres would be two-storeyed with an eight-bed intensive coronary care unit. However, the work on the centres could not be completed during the pilgrim season, as the board was yet to finalise its design and cost estimate, Mr. Nair said. He said the new road leading to the parking lots at Nilackal would be made motorable by October 31 and the water storage capacity at the Nilackal base camp was enhanced to 60-lakh litres. Mr. Nair said 400 toilets were additionally constructed at the base camp this year. The ban on entry of women in the age group of 10 to 50 years to Sabarimala would be strictly enforced and the board would launch awareness campaign in this regard in various South Indian States soon.
