Alappuzha denied outright win

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kollam managed to deny Alappuzha an outright win in the South Zone inter-district U-17 cricket tournament at the Agriculture College ground on Wednesday.

Chasing a daunting target of 277 off 22 overs, Kollam was staring at defeat after being reduced to 93 for nine when Alappuzha ran out of time to force a win. Alappuzha, for its first innings lead, gained two points.

At Ashramam Maidan, Kottayam held Thiruvananthapuram to a draw as rain played spoilsport. Kottayam, in reply to Thiruvananthapuram's first innings total of 417 for six, was dismissed for 158. The scores:

Alappuzha 220 & 184 for six decl. in 54.2 overs (Jijin 50, Monish Jayan 36, Sumesh 35) drew with Kollam 128 in 38 overs (Abhijith 34, Sandeep four for 32, Manilal three for 14, Sabin two for 12) & 93 for nine in 22 overs (Deepan Raj 37, Shiju six for 30, Sabin two for 33); Thiruvananthapuram 417 for six drew with Kottayam 158 in 54 overs (O.R. Sajan 87, Rahul Vellatil 30, Sahin five for 34, Subash two for 32, Rajeev two for zero) & 70 for two in 25 overs (Sajan 31 not out).
