Forbes overwhelmed by the interest

BANGALORE: It was Bangalore's turn to host Sterling `Smooth' Forbes, advance ambassador of Harlem Globetrotters, who are set tour the country in November and play the first two matches here, on November13 and 14.

Forbes said that he was delighted to be in India and he was overwhelmed by the interest shown in him and the game at Chennai and later in Kerala. He promised an entertaining and high-class fare from the Globetrotters, with variety of new tricks in their bag.

A new addition to the Globetrotters tour is a display at the inaugural function of the Sathya Sai International Centre for Sports at Puttaparthi on November 23.

National School League

Coinciding with the Globetrotters' visit, a National School League, involving top eight teams will be held in Bangalore from November14 to 19, Harish Sharma, Secretary General of the BFI said. It will be held under the auspices of the Karnataka State Basketball Association.

He said that initially, the league would consist of teams from Karnataka and later, top school teams from all the States will be included in the format.

Lone-goal win for MLI

Maharatta Light Infantry (MLI) defeated Coorg Hockey Association 1-0 in the `A' division league hockey tournament here. K.T Chimanna (29th) scored the only goal of the match.

In another match, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited beat Postal 5-1 with Chinappa (19th, 56th and 57th) scoring thrice. Dominic Savio (29th) and Chowdhary Babu (37th) completed the tally for HAL. Taranath (40th) scored Postal's consolation goal off a penalty corner.

Coaches' clinic concludes
