JAIPUR: Curfew was relaxed for one hour in the morning and for two hours from 4 to 6 in the evening on Wednesday in Gharsana and Raola towns in Rajasthan's Sriganganagar district. The troops, deployed after farmers demanding irrigation water clashed with the police on Monday evening, continued their presence. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the district where prohibitory orders are in force. Reports reaching here said the police arrested Vasudev, State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the party MLA Amra Ram and worker Naresh Choudhary near Gharsana during the day. However, official sources denied the arrest and said the leaders were held for some time and released later. No reason was given for their detention.
Effigy burnt
The CPI (M), the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) held a demonstration in the capital to protest against the Monday's police action on farmers in Gharsana. They burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje near the Civil Lines railway crossing and later met Governor Pratibha Patil. CPI (M) leaders Ravindra Shukla and Vakar-Ul-Ahad; CPI State secretary Dushyant Ojha and AITUC State general secretary D.K. Changani, who submitted a memorandum to Ms. Patil, demanded the release of the leaders of the Kisan Mazdoor Vyapari Sangarsh Samiti.
