BANGALORE: The south division police on Tuesday night busted cricket-betting racket by arresting six persons who were allegedly taking bets on the cricket match that was played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka as part of the Champions Trophy. The police seized stake money of Rs. 89,100 and a colour television set and mobile phones, estimated at Rs. 75,000, from the arrested. Following a tip-off, around 7 p.m. the Anti-Rowdy and Crime Detection Squad raided an automobile consultancy firm on Nanjamba Agrahara Main Road, off T.R. Mills, and arrested C. Govindaraju, Nagaraju, Kumar, Kodanda, Yamaiah and Mahesh. The police said they were on the lookout for the kingpins of the racket Vishnu Sahani, Shivanna, Tom alias Ramesh and Murthy. The police suspect that those involved in the racket had links with bookies in Mumbai, New Delhi and other metros. After the start of the Champions Trophy tournament, the police kept a vigil on certain places and bookies, who had been arrested in the past for taking bets on cricket matches.
