NEW DELHI: Municipal Commissioner A. K. Nigam on Wednesday accepted that there have been large-scale irregularities in the allotment of plots in the upcoming Ghogha dairy project at Narela in North-West Delhi. "More than 50 per cent plots have been fraudulently allotted to those who have nothing to do with the dairy business," he said at the MCD Standing Committee meeting. Stating that he had already informed the High Court-appointed L.C. Jain Committee monitoring the entire project about the bungling, Mr. Nigam said that after he received a report of the House Committee, formed by Mayor Farhat Suri to look into the issue, he got the entire matter thoroughly examined and found that the findings of the House Committee were correct. "I then ordered suspension of Veterinary Officer (Headquarters) S.K. Yadav, the main person behind the fraud." In its report, the House Committee had stated that of the 5,955 applications submitted at the zonal level, only 44 applicants were given plots, while of 1,319 applications given to Veterinary Officer, a whopping 1,276 applicants were given plots at Ghogha. Moreover, of the 1,276 plots distributed by Dr. Yadav, 664 were given to fake applicants, which includes at least a dozen plots allotted to those living in group housing societies. This episode has come as a major setback for the senior Congress functionaries in the civic body who had been claiming that the entire project was being carried out in a transparent manner.
