NEW DELHI: Though no dengue deaths have been reported here in the Capital during the past 24 hours, 94 fresh dengue cases have been registered including 27 at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

With this the total number of dengue patients has risen to 1,731 while the toll remains 38.

AIIMS spokesperson Shakti Gupta said on Wednesday: "As many as 810 persons were screened in the last 24 hours of whom 125 were kept under observation at the Institute. The hospital is now attending to 178 patients with dengue. The Department of Laboratory Medicine at AIIMS screened 1,006 blood samples in the last 24 hours of which 190 had a platelet count of less than 40,000, while 497 samples had a platelet count of less than one lakh.''

Meanwhile, in an effort to combat vector-borne diseases including dengue and malaria, the Delhi Government has asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to re-evaluate its action plan.

Action plan

"We have asked the Corporation to re-evaluate its action plan to combat what seems like a cyclic occurrence of these diseases. We have asked them to suggest long-term solutions and measures to strengthen the existing infrastructure to protect the general public. We understand that a multi-department integrated approach is needed to ensure that these diseases don't reoccur year after year,'' said Delhi Health Secretary D.S. Negi.

He added that the Delhi Government would fund the revised action plan suggested by the Corporation to prevent, control, inform and bring in proper management of vector-borne diseases.
