dated October 20, 1956: Governors of new States

The appointment has been announced of the Governors of the new reorganised States of Bombay, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Mysore, Punjab, Rajasthan, Andhra and West Bengal. Mr. Sri Prakasa, at present Governor of Madras, has been appointed Governor of Bombay. The new Kerala State will have as Governor Dr. B. Ramakrishna Rao, at present Chief Minister of Hyderabad. Dr. Pattabhi Sitaramayya and Dr. C.P.N. Singh will continue to be Governors of Madhya Pradesh and Punjab after reorganisation, while the Maharaja of Mysore, the Rajpramukh of the State, will be its Governor after the reorganisation. The Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Gurumukh Nihal Singh, has been appointed Governor of the new Rajasthan State. Mr. Chandulal Trivedi will continue as Governor of Andhra. Miss Padmaja Naidu, daughter of the late Mrs. Sarojini Naidu, has been appointed Governor of West Bengal. A press communiqué issued from the Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi on October 19 says the President has been pleased to make these appointments of Governors.
