News Analysis
A demand readers rightly make at times is that names should appear in print as the person concerned spells it. The latest instance, pointed out by a reader, relates to the Chief Election Commissioner. ("CEC holds talks with Manipur political leaders," October 19, 2006). The name is spelt as N. Gopalaswami, not Gopalswamy as in the photo caption and text. Professor Yan Xuetong, quoted in "The end of a long friendship" (Op-Ed, October 19, 2006), is at Tsinghua University, and not Beijing University as she has written, says Pallavi Aiyar. Adam Gilchrist and Michael Clarke put on 101 runs for the fifth wicket, and not the sixth wicket as mentioned in the report "Windies holds its nerves" (Sport, October 19, 2006). The scoreboard had it right, as readers have pointed out. It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible.
