NEW DELHI: With his mercy petition still pending before President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Mohammad Afzal Guru, who has been sentenced in the Parliament House attack case, will not be hanged on Friday the day set for his execution. The President already forwarded the mercy petition to the Home Ministry, which initiated the process of consultation and sought comments from the Delhi Government as the December 13, 2001 crime had occurred in its territory. The Home Ministry has not yet received its comments, a Ministry spokesman said here on Thursday. The petition had not been referred to the Law Ministry for its views. The Delhi Government had written to authorities in the Tihar Central Jail informing them that Afzal could not be hanged until the President took a decision on the petition.
