Singer returns award in protest

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: Prominent Uttaranchali folk singer Narender Singh Negi has returned the Virasat Samman he had received two years ago. The action is in protest against his "humiliation" by the organisers of the Sammelan a few days ago.

"I am an artiste. Eleven people were arrested for demonstration against the organisers who had humiliated me. I have returned the award as the way the demonstrators were treated by the organisers and the police has pained me," Mr. Negi said. Mr. Negi was not allowed to perform at the festival despite being invited to do so.
