Doctors' advice for Diwali

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Since smoke from firecrackers and other fireworks during Diwali can lead to choking spells for people suffering from asthma and other respiratory diseases, doctors in the Capital have recommended that they should avoid exposure to fumes and gasses emitted by fireworks and as far as possible stay indoors, use masks and air purifiers or air conditioners in their rooms.

Recommending dos and don'ts for such people, the doctors have also advised them to keep their inhalers close to them and increase the dose of anti-asthma medicine in consultation with their doctor just before Diwali.

According to Dr. Manish Mohil, senior consultant-internal medicine at G.M. Modi Hospital, there was a sharp increase in the levels of toxic matter and noxious gases during Diwali last year due to crackers and other fireworks
