SSLC case: bail plea rejected

Staff Reporter

HIGH COURTROUND-UP SSLC question paper case

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday rejected the anticipatory bail petition filed by the former Additional Director of Public Instruction V. Sanu in the SSLC question paper leak case.

The petition was dismissed by Justice J.M. James. The court which perused the records in the case was satisfied that the interrogation of the accused was necessary, particularly in the light of the disclosures made by the other accused before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The CBI had submitted that the interrogation of the accused was necessary in view of the material received by the CBI during the interrogation of the other accused.

The counsel for the petitioner submitted that Mr. Sanu, a member of the panel which held discussion with the firms which made offers for printing the SSLC question papers for 2002, had accepted bona fide the decision of the other members to award the contract to Mr. Rajan Chacko.

He had not accepted any graft in this regard.

Petition filed

Justice S. Siri Jagan adjourned to October 30 the hearing on the petition filed by the former Kozhikode District Collector and Director of Industries and Commerce T.O. Sooraj seeking to quash the findings of the Marad Judicial Commission to the effect that the allegation of communalism raised against him could not be ignored as baseless.

Conviction set aside

Justice J.B. Koshy has set aside the Thiruvananthapuram Special Court's verdict sentencing the former Joint Excise Commissioner P. Sasidharan to two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10 lakh in the case relating to the amassment of wealth disproportionate to his known source of income.

The case was registered in 1994.
