Snooker club raided in Jayanagar, 19 arrested

BANGALORE: The Jayanagar police had raided a snooker and billiards club on Wednesday and arrested 19 persons on charges of betting and recovered Rs. 6,250 cash.

The police said illegal betting was taking place at New Club in Jayanagar IV Block.

The police gave the names of the accused as Swami (28), resident of J.P. Nagar V Block; Kiran (30), resident of Kumaraswamy Layout; Suhej (19), resident of SMS Layout, J.P. Nagar; Imran Baig (26), resident of Shastri Nagar, K.R. Road; Vasim (23), resident of Shastri Nagar; Mohammed Aslam (17), Ashik G. Swami (17) and Raja (30), all residents of a paying guest accommodation at Jayanagar IV T Block; Sharief (25), resident of Jayanagar IX Block; Syed Vahid (27) of Jayanagar IV Block; Tanveer Ahmed (25), S.R.K. Garden; Riyaz (21) of Jayanagar II Block; S.G. Ravi (33) of Hoskerehalli; Srinivas (26) of Wilson Garden; Raghavendra (24) of Jayanagar IV T Block; Vinay (24) of Tata Silk Farm; Raghu (22) of Thyagarajanagar; Mohammed Niyad (18) of BTM Layout I Stage; and Suresh of Banashankari I Stage.

Arrested

The City Market Police, who had arrested Manja, alias Deck Manja on charges of robbery, have recovered jewellery estimated at Rs. 2.35 lakh from a jeweller to whom the accused had allegedly sold the stolen goods.

The jurisdictional court had ordered Manja to be kept in judicial custody on October 6.

After obtaining permission from the court, the police took up the recovery drive.

The police arrested the jeweller, Balaji Panduranga Bagal (26), resident of Swimming Pool Extension, Malleswaram, on charges of purchasing stolen goods while recovering the valuables allegedly stolen by Manja.

The police said Manja had committed robbery at the houses of H.S. Srikrishna, resident of N.R. Colony in Basavanagudi Police Station limits on August 13; K. Krishnamohan, resident of Kasturinagar in Ramamurthinagar Police Station limits on July 30; A. Agasthaya at Swimming Pool Extension in Vyalikaval Police Station limits on August 20; and Nanje Gowda at M.C. Layout in Vijayanagar Police Station on September 14.

According to the police, Balaji, hailing from Maharashtra, came to Bangalore eight years ago and was doing business in gold jewellery.
