dated October 21, 1956: Floods in Cauvery

The famous Mariamman temple at Samayapuram was in knee-deep water on the morning of October 19 following a heavy breach in the Peravlapur channel passing through the place. Water entered the Garbhagraham too. The road leading to Samayapuram was inundated for about 200 yards.

The water-level in the Cauvery has been increasing gradually since the morning consequent on the heavy discharge from the Mettur Dam.
