Rupee a shade lower

MUMBAI: The rupee, after a sharply firm start, fell and closed flat against the U.S. currency at 45.3175/3275 a dollar.

In restricted activity at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit opened sharply higher at 45.19/20, but later fell steeply to an intra-day low of 45.3800 following fresh dollar demand after crude oil prices firmed up. Later, the rupee closed at 45.3175/3275, a shade lower than the previous close of 45.3100/3200. — PTI
