Concern over assault on journalists

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Press Council of India has noted with concern the reports of assault on journalists, cameramen and photographers in New Delhi by lawyer colleagues of Santosh Kumar Singh who was convicted in the Priyadarshini Mattoo murder case.

"Keeping in view the gravity of the matter which, prima facie, appeared to be a threat to the free functioning of the Press, the Press Council has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter under Regulation (13) of the Press Council — Procedure for Inquiry Regulations — 1979, and sought a detailed report from the media concerned," a release issued by the council said.
