Hats off to Era Sezhiyan for his timely article, `Use voting machines against booth capturing' (Oct. 20). Government officials do need to respect elected representatives and their views on things that matter. But when such views appear illegal or "anti-people," the officials must stand up and say "no." In the recently concluded Tamil Nadu civic elections, such a display of courage was not in evidence except in one or two isolated instances.
