An Uttar Pradesh court's decision sentencing Imrana's father-in-law to 10 years in jail for raping her is a signal to countless other victims of such crimes who do not report them out of fear or other societal pressures.

The strong spirit exhibited by Imrana and her husband throughout the trial is heartening. The various women's organisations, the media, and all those who supported the couple deserve special mention too.
