Irreparable loss

The passing away of veteran actor Srividya in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday after a prolonged illness is an irreparable loss to the film world. In a career spanning 35 years, she carved a niche for herself in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu films.

Daughter of the illustrious Carnatic singer M.L. Vasanthakumari, Srividya was an accomplished singer and dancer herself. She will be remembered for her versatility.

Srividya's performance opposite Kamal Hassan in K. Balachander's Apoorva Ragangal will easily rank among her best. Reviewing the film, a critic wrote that Srividya's eyes "write a lot of poetry!"

S. Venugopalan,
Chennai
