ANANTAPUR: The Kuderu police in the district busted a six-member pseudo-naxalite gang on Friday and seized arms, ammunition and explosives from their possession. A former Maoist who had joined the mainstream and availed of financial assistance from the Government was heading the gang. Giving details to newspersons here, Anantapur DSP G.S. Karunakar said that a police team led by Sub Inspector P. Raju arrested six members of the gang. One more was at large. The DSP expressed dismay over the attitude of surrendered naxalite Kumar alias Sannappaiah of Udiripikonda in Kuderu mandal as he had taken to his past activity after availing of Government benefits.The arrested members of the gang included Kumar, the group's leader, Anand, Maruthi, Rudrappa, Raghavendra alias Raga and Yerriswamy, all belonging to Udiripikonda village. The police seized one tapancha, seven cartridges, two tin bombs, one tiffin-box bomb, two hunting sickles, 100 ordinary detonators and cable. The DSP said that Kumar was involved in the Maoist attack on Venkatammanahalli police outpost.
