Afzal execution: Swamy's stand

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy condemned the Centre for "failing to keep the date of October 20 set for executing the death sentence on Mohammad Afzal Guru."

Dr. Swamy said since Afzal Guru had not asked for mercy, and the Union Law Ministry had also well in time advised that no legal basis existed for not carrying out the sentence, "the Union Home Ministry had no patriotic or legal reason not to carry out the execution forthwith."
