Manmohan Singh hosts Iftar

HONOUR: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh being presented a shawl by Muslim women at an Iftar hosted by him at his residence in New Delhi on Friday.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday hosted an Iftar at his official residence, 7 Race Course Road here. It was attended by a large number of dignitaries, his Cabinet colleagues and prominent members of the Muslim community and religious leaders from various parts of the country.

The Prime Minister mingled with the invitees and spent time with the distinguished guests.

The former President, R. Venkataraman, the former Prime Minister, I.K. Gujral, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and People's Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti, members of the diplomatic corps, including Pakistan High Commissioner Aziz Ahmed Khan, were among those who attended the party.

Union Ministers Arjun Singh, Meira Kumar, Shivraj Patil, Hansraj Bhardwaj, Saifuddin Soz, Sontosh Mohan Deb, Anand Sharma, Prithiviraj Chavan, P.R. Kyndiah, Ashwani Kumar, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Chief of Army Staff Gen. J.J. Singh and Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon were present.

Ahmed Patel, political secretary to the Congress president, and general secretaries Margaret Alva, B.K. Hari Prasad, Mukul Wasnik, Noor Bano, were also at the party.
