Bidapa's son arrested on assault charge

Case also registered against wife of the fashion designer

BANGALORE: The Ashoknagar police have arrested Adam Bidapa (20), son of fashion designer Prasad Bidapa, who allegedly assaulted four policemen at a pub on Residency Road in the early hours of Friday.

The police have also registered a case against Adam's mother Judie Bidapa on charges of misbehaving with the police at the Ashoknagar police station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) G.B. Chebbi said that while he was on night rounds he noticed that a pub on Residency Road was open at 12.15 a.m. He instructed the beat police to get the pub closed.

When the policemen were getting the outlet closed, Adam, who was at the pub, allegedly abused and assaulted the three policemen — assistant sub-inspector Venkatesh, head constable Bheema Naik and constable Veeranna — Mr. Chebbi told presspersons.

When Mr. Chebbi sent a constable Anand Prakash, who was accompanying him, to the pub to find out what was happening, Adam assaulted him too. Subsequently, the staff attached to a Hoysala patrol squad arrested Adam and took him to the Ashoknagar police station, he said.

After learning of the arrest, Mr. Bidapa and Ms. Judie came to the police station. "Ms. Judie misbehaved with the police and created a ruckus at the station," Mr. Chebbi said. "During the melee, some one pushed me and I injured my finger," the DCP said.

On a complaint by Mr. Chebbi, the Ashoknagar police have registered a case against Ms. Judie under the Section 332 of the Indian Penal Code. They have also booked a case against the pub under the Karnataka Police Act.

The police later produced Adam before the magistrate and he was remanded in judicial custody till Saturday evening, Mr. Chebbi said.

Bidapa's version

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Bidapa denied the police version of the incident. He said he would approach the National Human Rights Commission to get justice.

Mr. Bidapa alleged that the police had demanded huge bribe to hush up the case.
