dated October 23, 1956: Reddi elected leader

Mr. N. Sanjiva Reddi was elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Andhra Pradesh at a meeting of the party held in Kurnool on October 21. An "informal ballot" was taken in which Mr. Sanjiva Reddi received a "fairly good majority" over Mr. Gopala Reddi. Mr. Sriman Narayan, Congress General Secretary, who was present on behalf of the AICC, issued the ballot papers to the party members. After the voting Mr. Gopala Reddi led Mr. Sanjiva Reddi into the hall where the legislators were assembled and proposed his name for the leadership. Mr. Gopala Reddi appealed to the party members to forget past rivalry and work unitedly for the prosperity of Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra State had faced many difficult problems courageously and solved them and established a stable administration. It was the responsibility of every Congress legislator to help maintain that stability. He wished the new leader every success.
