Kozhikode: Five teachers have been chosen for the M.M. Ghani Award instituted by Calicut University in recognition of their outstanding contribution to teaching. The awards are given based on the nominations received for their services rendered during the academic year 2004-2005. They are K.C. Anand, N.S.S. College of Engineering, Palakkad, Iype Varghese, Dental College, Kozhikode, M.P. Rajan, N.S.S. College, Ottapalam, B. Shyamala, Vaidyarathnam Ayurveda College, Ollur, and Sr. P.A. Theresa, Mercy College, Palakkad. A jury comprising Vice-Chancellor Syed Iqbal Hasnain as chairman, Krishnan Karangatt, Dr. D.K. Babu, Dr. B.R.S. Babu, Dr. Philomena, Dr. S. Rajendran and Dr. Mubarak Pasha selected the awardees. At present, Dr. Anand is doing independent research assisted by various agencies and Dr. Varghese is Principal of Government Dental College. Dr. Rajan is now principal of Mattanoor College and Syndicate member of Kannur University. Dr. Shyamala is the first woman-teacher in the State to obtain a research degree in Ayurveda. Dr. Theresa was principal of Mercy College, Palakkad, and had obtained a doctorate in sociology.
