Doctors rule out surgical intervention to remove third bullet

Prabhakar B. Kore

Belgaum: Two specialists from Mumbai have ruled out any immediate surgical intervention to remove the third bullet lodged in the liver of Prabhakar B. Kore, MLC, even as the senior Congress leader and chairman of KLE Society is showing progressive improvement in his health condition.

According to sources and a KLES Hospital release, Gustad B. Daver, general vascular and thoracic surgeon, and Sudeep R. Shah, consultant in surgical gastroenterology and specialist in hepato-biliary-pancreatic disorders and liver transplantation from Hinduja Hospital, visited the KLES Hospital at the request of the latter on Saturday.

They held discussions with the KLES Hospital doctors. After studying clinical evaluation of Mr. Kore and reviewing the operative details wherein two bullets were removed from his body, they performed ultra sonography to confirm the clinical findings.

They reportedly said there was no need to take up surgical intervention on the issue of the bullet, which is stated to deep-seated in the liver.

They observed that Mr. Kore did not require active intervention at present except follow-up investigation. They said there was no necessity to shift Mr. Kore to any other hospital since the bullet in the liver had not caused any acute complication, neither would it cause any damage to the tissues at present.

Nitin Rao, consultant-surgical gastroenterology from Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore, who visited the hospital, observed that the bullet had damaged only a small portion of liver tissues. The dead tissues would be absorbed and fresh tissues formed on their own.
