FIGHTING FOR FUEL: Residents of Maqdampur locality in Gulbarga staging a `rasta roko' demanding supply of kerosene on Sunday.
GULBARGA: The residents of Maqdampur locality and Ramji Nagar in Roza locality on Sunday resorted to "rasta roko" agitation in their respective areas demanding supply of kerosene oil to families that had not been supplied new ration cards so far. The residents, mostly women and their children, squatted on the road shouting slogans against the authorities for depriving them of their share of kerosene oil at subsidised rates through the Public Distribution System (PDS) as they were not supplied with the new below poverty line (BPL) ration cards so far. They alleged that the people were forced to buy fuel in black market by paying high prices. The residents complained that in the distribution of ration cards, their families had been left out.
Removed from list
They had been removed from below poverty line list by the authorities as per the new norms fixed by the Government. They wanted the district authorities to ensure that all those who had possessed ration cards earlier should be included in the new list prepared based on a survey conducted by the authorities. The ration cards should be supplied to them immediately to enable them to buy the foodgrains and kerosene oil at subsidised rates in the ration shops, they added.
