Puducherry: Two girls Kanchana (14) and Rajakumari (4) died of injuries caused when they burst crackers on the eve of Deepavali in Pattukannu village near here. The girls sustained injuries when sparks from one of the crackers scattered in different directions igniting a heap of fire crackers kept at the house. While Kanchana died instantly, the other girl (a cousin of Kanchana) died at the hospital on Sunday. An elderly woman, who rushed to the rescue of the girls, also sustained injuries. She had been admitted to the hospital. Police registered a case and are investigating.
15 injured
The local hospitals treated around 15 persons, who sustained burns while bursting crackers. A thatched shed of a temple was also reportedly gutted when crackers fell on it.
