HYDERABAD: Sports Minister M. Satyanarayana Rao who threw a challenge to Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K. Chandrasekhara Rao to quit the Karimngar Lok Sabha seat and seek re-election by taking him on seems to have decided to opt out of the fray. Instead of contesting the election as the Congress nominee, he is understood to have backed the candidature of Jagtial MLA T. Jeevan Reddy. Mr. Satyanarayana Rao, who came to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's camp office on Sunday evening on the occasion of a number of TRS and TDP sarpanches and leaders joining the Congress, indicated that Mr. Jeevan Reddy would be the candidate. Accompanied by a few party aspirants like former Indurthi MLA Bomma Venkateswara Rao, the Sports Minister called on Dr. Reddy and discussed the political developments in Karimnagar in the context of ensuing byelection. As a four-cornered contest appears inevitable in Karimnagar, the Congress was also looking for a strong candidate to take on the TRS chief. While a number of aspirants including several party MLAs and former elected representatives had evinced interest to contest the election, the opinion in the party seems to be in favour Mr. Jeevan Reddy.
