`YSR pleasing MLAs to keep post'

Chief Minister accused of `influencing' Collector

KADAPA: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was safeguarding his post by `pleasing' MLAs by undue means, Rajya Sabha Member and district Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president C. Ramachandraiah alleged on Sunday.

Addressing a meeting of TDP workers in Proddatur constituency, he accused the Chief Minister of influencing district Collector M.T. Krishna Babu and judicial officers to ensure that they favoured ruling partymen.

Urging officials to be wary of partisan actions, he recalled the Supreme Court's warning that Government officials would face action for lopsided decisions even after retirement.

Officials faulted

Mr. Ramachandraiah accused officials of evincing a step-motherly attitude towards Opposition leaders and warned that they would meet the fate of their counterparts in Kurnool.

Congressmen were amassing wealth through dubious means and neglecting people's problems, he alleged.

The MP accused Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy of shirking responsibility in the clemency of Congress leader Gouru Venkat Reddy by blaming officials.

Congressmen protested before newspaper offices on some occasions on the Chief Minister's directions, he alleged.

Mysoora's charge

Rajya Sabha Member M.V. Mysoora Reddy alleged that the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Government facilitated Congressmen to amass money but ignored public problems.

Former MLA M.V. Ramana Reddy asserted that the Congress had been winning Proddatur Assembly seat due to the bickering among TDP leaders.

Former MLA S. Raghurami Reddy said people benefited in TDP rule, but faced problems under the YSR rule.

TDP leaders B. Hanmanthu, K. Ramesh Reddy, R. Venkatasubba Reddy, M. Venkataswamy and Khaja Mohiuddin participated.
