HYDERABAD: Telangana Jagarana Sena Karimnagar district `commander' S. Bhaskara Reddy along with over two-dozen Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) sarpanches from Nerella and Indurthi constituencies joined the Congress in the presence of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy here on Sunday. Amid fanfare and a huge four-wheeler rally, the TRS and TDP leaders led by Mr. Bhaskar Reddy came to the Chief Minister's camp office in the evening and formally joined the party. The Chief Minister welcomed them into the party fold. Addressing a gathering, Dr. Reddy said that he would lay the foundation for the irrigation project to lift water from the Mid-Manair reservoir to Upper Manair Project in Karimnagar district within a fortnight. "The lift irrigation project at Mid-Manair reservoir will go a long way in mitigating the suffering of the farmers of the backward Nerella constituency," Dr. Reddy said. Asserting that the Congress Government was doing its best to develop the region, Dr. Reddy said top most priority was accorded to the irrigation sector. He said comprehensive development of the region was the immediate task of the Government and promised to complete the Pranahita-Chevella link channel, which was lifeline of the Karimnagar, Medak and Ranga Reddy districts.
Telangana issue
Referring to the separate Telangana issue, Dr. Reddy said that the Congress high command was seriously continuing consultation to achieve consensus on the issue. He said the Congress party should strive hard to win the Karimnagar by election. Sports Minister M. Satyanarayana Rao said no one should doubt the sincerity of the Chief Minister in developing Telangana and urged the newly inducted leaders to work hard to defeat the TRS in the by polls. Mr. Bhaskar Reddy said he along with others decided to part ways with the TRS as party president K. Chandrasekhara Rao had failed to honour his promise to the electorate. Government Whip D. Sridhar Babu, former MLA Bomma Venkateswara Rao and Karimnagar DCC president Santosh Kumar and others were present.
