NDF worker hacked to death

Staff Reporter

THALASSERY: A National Development Front (NDF) activist was hacked to death here in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as V.K. Muhammad Fasal (32) from nearby Muzhappilangad, who was a distributor of the Thejas, the mouthpiece of the NDF. His body was found with multiple stab injuries near the Saidarpalli area here early morning. The police said that he was on his way from his wife's house at Madappeedika here to the New Bus Stand to collect newspaper bundles for distribution when the attack took place.

NDF district convener A.C. Jalaluddin said that Fasal was murdered by suspected Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activists. Denying that it was involved in the murder, the RSS leadership here said that it should be seen as a continuation of the rivalry between NDF and Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers here.

The body was sent to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination.

NDF workers staged a demonstration near the General Hospital here at 11 a.m. When the police stopped the demonstration, the protestors staged a sit-in on the road affecting road traffic for 15 minutes.

The police said that more police personnel were deployed here in view of the tension following the murder. Raids were being conducted in different parts here.
