NEW DELHI: With elections round the corner, National Students' Union of India (NSUI) -- that is desperately trying to gain a foothold in the Jawaharlal Nehru University -- has found in dengue a new issue for the polls. Bringing into focus the facilities or the lack of them at the health centre at JNU, the student organisation has written to Vice-Chancellor B.B Bhattacharya asking him to ensure medical reimbursement for students who are forced to avail treatment from private hospitals. "For any serious treatment, students are usually referred to Government hospitals. However, in wake of the widespread dengue fever, hospitals are flooded with patients and it is difficult for anyone to get admission or proper medical attention. Hence, students are largely depending on private hospitals," wrote NSUI JNU vice-president Mathew Kuzhalanadan in his letter. Claiming that the expense of treatment with the private hospitals was unaffordable for common students, NSUI has asked the administration to ensure medical reimbursement for students who are admitted to private hospitals.
