HYDERABAD: As the horizon, lit up bright as the sun, burst into a million colours, the festival of lights Deepavali was celebrated with much gaiety in the twin cities on Saturday.

At dusk, households were lit up with `diyas' and people burst crackers to celebrate the festival of lights, symbolising the victory of truth over evil.

Haze envelops city

`Lakshmi puja' was performed at households and business establishments with gold, silver and cash being placed on a platter to seek the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. Festivities ran till late into the night in several parts of the city.

As the festive spirit enveloped the city, there was a canopy of haze too that hung thick in the air till late in the night.
