Minister visits IT Corridor

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Minister for Highways and Ports, M.P. Saminathan, visited the IT Corridor Express Way with officials on Thursday. He has ordered opening of the road between Madhya Kailash and Velachery for public use by the month-end.

Symposium

The Rajan Eye Care Hospital, in association with the Allergan India Pvt. Ltd., organised a symposium on `Ocular Surface Disease' last Sunday. Srinivas K. Rao, corneal specialist, inaugurated it. He also launched the `Centre of Excellence for Corneal Disease' at Rajan Eye Care Hospital.

Coaching for TNPSC

The Periyar Coaching Centre will be conducting coaching classes for TNPSC-Subordinate Services Examinations to be held on July 7, 2007. Classes will be conducted at the Periyar Thidal, Vepery. Coaching will be given between 6 and 8 p.m. for two months commencing Monday. Contact the centre or call 2661 8162 or 2661 8163.

Seminar

The Nazareth College of Arts & Science, Avadi, organised a seminar on Wednesday on `Personality Development' for its senior students. Kannan, HR Manager, EDS, told students about the importance of soft skills and the techniques of career development, interview skills. Around 150 students participated in the session.

Technical symposium

St. Peters Engineering College, Avadi, organised a national-level technical symposium, `Synergy `06', on October 12. S. Gopal, CEO, GEM Infotech Pvt. Ltd., and M.R. Rajagopalan, Director, CDAC, participated. Around 150 students from 21 colleges participated.

Combating leprosy

The Indian Development Foundation (IDF), formerly the Indian Leprosy Association, held the IDF Grants Release Function at the Good Shepherd MHSS on Tuesday. Rajeshwari Ramachandran, Deputy Director, ICMR-TB Research Centre, gave away grants to leprosy/tuberculosis hospitals and projects in the Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala regions. Grants totalling Rs. 45 lakh were earmarked for 88 development projects across the country.

Dialysis unit opened

The Tamilnad Kidney Research Foundation (TANKER) opened its third dialysis unit on October 8 at N.S. Hospital in Palanganatham, Madurai. TANKER's goodwill ambassador and actor Suriya inaugurated it. It will be made as a five-bed subsidised dialysis unit within six months. It will cater to underprivileged patients in and around Madurai. The cost of dialysis will be Rs. 450.
