CHENNAI : A 40-year-old trader, N. Manickchand, found in a pool of blood in his house in Sowcarpet was admitted to hospital for treatment on Sunday. According to police, the Manikchand suffered a bullet wound in the head and an injury on his shoulder, reportedly inflicted with a sabre, in the morning. A police team recovered an un-licensed pistol from the trader's house. Police said he was in critical condition. Manikchand was staying with his brother Tarachand. Police are interrogating his brother, wife Prameela Kumari and the two children. Kotwal Chavadi police are investigating.
Ramzan security
The city police have arranged for adequate security for the Ramzan celebrations on Tuesday, a release from the Police Commissioner's office said. Three thousand police personnel would be pressed into service to maintain law and order and provide protection to the mosques in the city. The police have appealed to the people to extend their cooperation to celebrate the function peacefully.
House break-in
Burglars broke into a house on West Avenue, Tiruvanmiyur and escaped with valuables. The incident came to light on Sunday. Police said thieves entered the house of Senthil Arumugam, away in Tiruchi, for the festival holidays. The intruders broke open the rear door and removed the valuables. Police are investigating.
Cash stolen
Cash of Rs 1.6 lakh kept in a wine shop in Medavakkam was found missing on Sunday. According to police, the wine shop supervisor, Palani, said they had kept the Deepavali day's collection in the shop itself. When the staff came to open the shop on Sunday, the shutters were found broken and the cash stolen. Pallikaranai police are investigating.
DVDs seized
A special police party busted a gang involved in production of pirated Tamil film DVDs in Kilpauk on Saturday and arrested three people, a release said. On a tip-off, the special party raided a house on New Avadi Road and seized a tele cine machine, a DVD compressor and about 200 DVD copies of recently released Tamil movies, besides six beta cassettes. The arrested were identified as Sanjay Wadhva, Thanveer and Senthil. The seized DVDs included Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu, Thimiru, Perarasu, Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, and Uyir. A case under Copyright Act has been registered against the arrested, the release added.
