CHENNAI: K.Veeramani, president of the Dravidar Kazhagam (DK), on Sunday said imposing the creamy layer concept for implementation of reservations for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SCs and STs) was opposed to social justice. Referring to the judgement of the five-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday that the creamy layer within the SCs and STs must be excluded from the purview of reservation, he said this was not in tune with the ruling of the nine-judge Constitution Bench in the Mandal case. He appealed to the backward classes and SCs and STs to jointly voice their protest against imposition of the creamy layer concept. Mr.Veeramani also said the Tamil Nadu Reservation Act, which had been included in the Ninth Schedule, was immune from judicial review.
