Hyderabad: Wonder how many litres of phenyl is required to keep the stink away from public urinals in the city? Hold your breath, the MCH uses 5,000 litres of phenyl and 200 litres of acid every year to clean the urinals. As on date there are 111 public urinals on main roads, including 56 conventional ones. This was informed by MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju to a question raised by Sultan Bazar corporator M. Shanker Yadav at the recent general body meeting of the corporation.
Not enough
The existing urinals were not sufficient and the MCH had taken up construction of public conveniences on main roads in the city on BOT basis. As per the assurance given by the Municipal Administration Minister in the Assembly, 100 modern public conveniences would be constructed in the City. So far 55 such public conveniences were completed and work on 30 was in progress. The existing urinals were also being modernised by providing amenities like WC's, urinary bowls, washbasins. In addition to these, the MCH has started construction of 117 more urinals on the main roads, the reply stated.
