AID AT HAND: An RTC coordinator helping a passenger at Imliban.
HYDERABAD: The APSRTC Ranga Reddy region which runs about 2,420 buses on an average a day for a lakh passengers, broke its own record, pressing into service 497 additional buses to transport over 25,000 passengers from October 19 for Deepavali. S. Nagaraju, Regional Manager, said the last year's figure for festival operations from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) or Imliban, was 242 buses and 11,000 passengers. The out-bound traffic is expected to be high on Tuesday, when they will ply 40 special buses to Bangalore alone. This is because most techies will return after Deepavali. The region has introduced services from the offices of the corporation's authorised ticket booking (ATB) agents, almost like running buses from the passenger's doorsteps. An innovative step that helped passengers was the presence of 10 customer relations coordinators (CRC) who helped about 25,000 passengers on October 19 alone and continue to do so. Wearing signboards with `May I Help You' inscribed, they assisted in guiding the teeming crowd of passengers through to the 65 platforms to get their buses. `We got only 10 representations for further clarification', Mr. Nagaraju said, adding that CRCs were specially trained in customer relations duties at their home depots.
