Bangalore: Five persons were killed in separate road accidents in the city. Jibin Joy (21) was killed on the spot when an autorickshaw hit his motorcycle at J.J. Nagar, near the Muneshwara Temple, on Saturday. Joy, a native of Kerala, was a second year nursing student here. A case has been registered. Ayyanar (22) and Mani (25), both residents of Mangamanapalya, died when their motorcycle rammed a tree near MICO Layout. The police said the duo died on the spot. A case has been registered. Mariamma (70), a resident of Bommanahalli, was killed when a sports utility vehicle hit her while she was trying to cross a road in Madivala police station limits on Saturday. The police have registered a case. In another incident, an unidentified woman died when a vehicle hit her while she was attempting to cross the road near Singasandra bus stand on Hosur Main Road. The police have registered a case.
Arrested
A five-member gang was arrested by the K.P. Agrahara police on Friday. The police gave the names of the accused as Manja alias "Koli" Manja (24), Chandra (27), Prabhu (29), Ramesh (26) and Paramesh (26). They said the five were arrested when they were allegedly planning to commit robbery. They have been remanded in judicial custody till November 4, the police said. The Sampangiramanagar police on October 17 arrested two persons on charges of cheating and recovered tea powder worth Rs. 2 lakh from them. They gave the names of the arrested as Sajjan Singh (32) and Ranbir Singh (31), both from Haryana. The two were arrested based on a complaint by S.N. Kaushik of Centurion Transport. The two had allegedly cheated the transport company. Two persons were arrested by the Halasuru police on charges of theft. Their names were given as Jacob (21) and Ganesh (24). The police recovered laptops and other electronic goods worth Rs. 1 lakh from the accused. They have been remanded in judicial custody.
Recovered
The City Market police arrested three persons and recovered jewellery worth Rs. 2.5 lakh from them. The police said the accused used to burgle shops by cutting open the rolling shutters. Their names were given as Manjunath (26), T. Srinivas (30), Puttaraj (35). The three, along with Shankar of Chikmagalur, Mahesh of Nelamangala and Ashok of Bangalore had burgled a jewellery store and a provision store at Bhadravati. They were also involved in chain snatching cases reported from Chickpet and BMTC bus station, the police said.
