Srivilliputhur: Host Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering won the title with two wins in the three-team league in the Anna University inter-zone women's hockey tournament at Krishnan Kovil, near here on Monday. Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, finished the runner-up with a win over Kumaraguru College of Engineering, Coimbatore. The results: League: AKCE, Krishnan Kovil 6 (Kanimozhi 3, Mari Ammal, Vinutha, Chitra Devi) bt TCE, Madurai 0; AKCE 4 (Vinutha 2, Kanimozhi 2) bt Kumaraguru College of Engineering 2 (Prithivi, Jeyashri Shanmugan), TCE 2 (Lakshmishri 2) bt Kumaraguru CE 0.
Arul Senthil wins
B. Arul Senthil of Sri Kulapathi Balaiah HSS with four points won the under-18 title at the Pudukottai District level chess tournament at Pudukottai on Sunday. The results: Under-18: 1. B. Arul Senthil (Sri Kulapathi Balaiah HSS), 2. S. Chandrasekar (Mount Zion MHSS), 3. V. Parthiban (Government ITI). Under-14: 1. T. Petchipriya (Sacred Heart GHSS), 2. Saajitha Banu (Sacred Heart GHSS), 3. B. Sethuraman (TELC HSS). Under-11: 1. G.S. Adityan (Mount Zion MHSS), 2. J. Athithya (Mount Zion MHSS), 3. P.L. Aishwarya (Lions MHSS). Under-9: 1. V. Arvindh (Mount Zion MHSS), 2. P.L. Soundarya (Lions MHSS), 3. M.A. Vaidhyanathan (Seethalakshmi Vidhyashram).
Inter-district football
At Dindigul, the 21st State junior inter-district football championship for the T.P. Ramasamy Pillai Cup, organised by Solar Sports Club under the auspices of the Dindigul District Football Association, will get under way at the Government Higher Secondary School ground, Nilakottai, on Wednesday. Twenty-five teams will participate in the championship, which will be played on a knock-out format. The final is stated for November 5.
Chess tournament
