MOHALI: Daljit Singh, the curator of the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium here, takes great pride in his work. A keen student of the game, he is devoted to his job of creating the best infrastructure for the players at the stadium here. From keeping wickets, he has adapted well to preparing pitches. "I love the job," he says as he conducts a guided tour of the pitch and the ground for the media. "It will be a sporting pitch," he announced even as apprehensions surrounded the playing surface, which had a prominent tinge of green ahead of the Pakistan-New Zealand match. Daljit has prepared three pitches for four matches scheduled for the next 10 days, including one semifinal on November 1. "The pitches are fresh, but ready to host quality contests," he noted here on Monday. Daljit cautioned the openers, saying "the new ball will be tough to play." The Champions Trophy opener was played here with Sri Lanka compiling 302, the highest total in this edition of the tournament so far. Meanwhile, New Zealand and Pakistan went through their training sessions with Shane Bond looking very impressive and Lou Vincent promising a better performance from his team after a disappointing loss to Sri Lanka that took away the initiative after the victory against South Africa in its opening match.
