SRINAGAR: Lt. Gen. Amarjeet Singh Sekhon has taken over as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps replacing Lt. Gen. S.S. Dhillon, who has been shifted to the Army Headquarters, Delhi. Gen. Sekhon will head one of the most important and prestigious Corps in the Army. A veteran of the India-Pakistan war of 1971, he is the recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Yudh Seva Medal. He was commissioned into the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment in 1970 and has had an illustrious career spanning 36 years. He graduated from the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, attended Senior and Higher Command Courses at the Army War College and is an alumnus of the National Defence College, New Delhi. He has held a number of prestigious command and staff appointments. Gen. Sekhon commanded his unit in the north-east followed by the command of an Infantry Brigade on the Line of Control in Poonch. He had commanded the prestigious 25 Infantry Division and was awarded the AVSM for his distinguished services along the Line of Control. He was also decorated with the YSM for his services in Kargil in 1999.
