Sales soar on Ramzan eve

Staff Reporter

Special prayers also mark the oncoming fest

SANGAREDDY : With delay in citing the crescent moon followed by the Rayyat Hilal Committee's announcement, the Muslims here have postponed their festivities for Wednesday. The banks and other Government establishments worked as usual even though the staff had to be called back from their homes to man the counters.

The main prayer would be held here at the local Eidgah maidan under the guidance of Ali Moosa president, Eidgah sub-committee. While the month-long fasting has to continue for one more day, special prayers here and in places like Zaheerabad, Kohir and Sadasivapet attracted huge crowds. Similarly, many elders and children were seen on streets hugging and greeting each other with `Eid Mubarak.' Sales of `sevia' (vermicelli), an essential ingredient in making `sheer khurma' continued even on Tuesday. Vendors of consumer goods, clothes and footwear did roaring business in the traditional Jumma market and Motimahal market in Sangareddy town.

District Collector B.Venkatesam, Minister for Tourism J.Geetha Reddy and Minister for Minority Welfare Mohammad Fariduddin conveyed their wishes to the Muslim brethren on the eve of Eid-ul-fitr.
