Comedy of errors

You may wonder, what's in a name. Indeed, there is a lot in a name, especially if it is the one printed in your SSLC book. Ilyas P.P learned his lesson the hard way.

Little did Ilyas know what lay in store for him when he sent his SSLC mark-list back to the authorities to correct a mistake in the spelling of his name.

Ilyas was dismayed when he got his corrected mark-list that had been sent a-year-and-a-half ago.

His name had been spelt correctly in the new mark-list. But some glaring errors had crept in, creating an identity crisis of sorts. His father's name read as - `Indian' and his nationality - `Padannakkad,' which is actually his place of birth. And the worst mistake of all- his mother's name was stated as Ibrahim P.P in the address column of the mark-list.

Ilyas had appeared for his SSLC exam a second time in June 2004. Since his attempt to get the errors in the mark-list corrected took a long time he was unable to pursue his academics.

Ilyas now seems to know that getting an error in the SSLC mark-sheet rectified is as difficult as passing the examination.
